Alison Aiken PT, DPT, CYT

Alison Aiken has worked as a physical therapist since graduating from the University of Vermont in 1998.She worked in several PT clinics in upstate New York and Vermont before joining the Evolution team in 2010. Alison continued to advance her studies and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2012. She has advanced training on the evaluation and treatment of the spine and extremities, women’s health including pre and post-natal concerns, and pelvic floor dysfunction. Her treatments draw from a wide base of manual therapy techniques including myofascial release, muscle energy, and visceral manipulation, and include exercise prescription, correcting impaired movement patterns through neuromuscular reeducation, and education on posture and breathing patterns.

After several years of yoga practice she earned her yoga teaching certification from The Yoga Institute in 2005. She is currently completing her Professional Yoga Therapy certification at Naada Yoga in Montreal.

Alison integrates her physical therapy and yoga training in a holistic manner including the whole self in her evaluation and treatment rather than focusing solely on the area of symptoms. Her therapy style includes the patient in decision-making, treatment planning, and goal setting, working as teammates towards achieving the best care. The integration of yogic techniques into physical therapy guides her patients towards improved awareness of posture, breath, and movement patterns. She will develop custom yoga therapy routines for her clients to improve long term recovery and symptom management.

A distance runner, rock climber, and mother, Dr. Aiken understands the importance of fitness, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle and the need to find balance in physical, social and emotional well-being.

Alison teaches Yoga Therapeutics and Yoga Wall drop-in classes and various workshops throughout the year including Intro to Yoga Therapeutics for Healthcare Professionals.
