Pose of the Month
Each month, Evolution Yoga will choose one specific physical and/or
philosophical theme to weave into our classes so that we can continue
to be active learners on the yogic path.
May pose of the month:
NATARAJASANA, King Dancer Pose
From Tadasana, bend your right knee and
hold onto the top of the right foot behind you with the right hand.
Extend your left arm straight in front. Keeping the hips square, press
your lifted foot into your right hand to extend the knee backward,
opening the right thigh. Scoop your tailbone under slightly and open
the upper chest, finding an even curve in the spine. Gaze either up
with a supported cervical spine, or tip the body forward slightly (keeping
the chest open) and gaze toward the floor in front of you.
In this heart-opening backbend, we feel how every part of our body must
work together in order to find balance. Just like dancing, a little bit
of letting go will go a long way in this pose – tighten and struggle,
and we are bound to feel ungraceful and fall. Remember to breath, firmly
root into the earth and trust your body to blossom, and the dancer emerges
gracefully.
