Evolution offers specialized yoga series and workshops for more in-depth, personalized practice.  Check out descriptions of our regular offerings below, and check out our upcoming workshops and series over to the right.

Yoga for a Healthy Back

This six-week program is designed for people with low back pain who wish to return to yoga practice or explore yoga as a method of managing their back pain. Students will learn basic lumbar spine anatomy, yoga principles and modification of poses that work best for their diagnosis. We will develop a yoga routine that includes breathing exercises, stretches, core strengthening, flowing poses and relaxation exercises. Yoga for a Healthy Back series is taught by Meagen Satinsky PT, Janet Carscadden PT and Alison Aiken PT, all licensed physical therapists and certified yoga instructors.

Beginner Yoga Series with John McConnell

In this series, we work together to learn about practicing yoga in a fun, supportive environment. We work on good alignment principles, learn some breathing and meditation techniques, and begin to explore new postures from the ground up. This series is a great way to commit to practicing and learning. It also always feels good to be in a room with other people around who are practicing at your same level and feel the support and encouragement of other students.

Total Beginner Yoga Series with Rachel de Simone

This special series is designed for those who have never taken a yoga class before. In this 6 week series, Rachel will introduce you to the basics of a hatha yoga practice, with modifications made as needed to accommodate tight bodies. By the end of the series, you will be able to take your new yoga knowledge and begin a home practice, or venture out into the greater yoga community. Rachel creates a safe environment for beginners to feel welcome; all that is required is that you show up ready to try something new, and smile.

This series is appropriate for someone with little to no physical or athletic background.

Yoga Therapeutics for the Hips with Meagen Satinsky, PT

Learn how to gently improve flexibility in your hips to find freedom from stiffness or pain. Meagen Satinsky, PT draws on her depth of knowledge as a physical therapist and yoga instructor to teach the secrets of sequencing a practice, using breath work and relaxation to bring your hips back into balance.

You will learn basic anatomy of the hips, and how to modify poses to meet your individual needs.

Living Yoga Kripalu Series with Martha Whitney

Martha offers a mindful and inspiring environment in which people find comfort in their body. Her rich language and individualized guidance help students deepen their practice and self-awareness. Students learn alignment as they cultivate peacefulness and kindness toward themselves. These classes are a great way to start the morning.

Couples Yoga for Labor and Birth, with Susan Cline Lucey

In this Friday night workshop, you and your partner will learn yoga, breath work, massage, and relaxation techniques for pregnancy, labor and birth. We’ll cover a variety of labor support techniques and pain coping practices for the different stages of labor as well as counter-pressure tips to help with back pain during labor. Conversation will also focus on the physiology of labor, how/when to coach through a contraction, and the specific practice of non-focused awareness as a tool for labor.

This workshop is a great way for you to connect as a couple in preparation for sharing the birth experience together – it’s invaluable for first time parents, as well as for those second/third time parents who are not planning on taking a birth class but would like a class to connect around the baby and have a refresher on labor support techniques. Students find this workshop very helpful in the last stages of pregnancy.

Going Deeper Workshops

Expand your knowledge of yoga and connect to the local yoga community in these light-hearted, supportive, and inclusive workshops. The Going Deeper workshops have a strong focus on low pressure. Learn how to make your practice, and with that your life, deeper and more fulfilling. The Going Deeper Continuing Education Workshop Series with John McConnell is for students and yoga teachers who want to deepen their understanding of the yoga practice.

Yoga 4 Classrooms Workshop for Educators

Yoga 4 Classrooms™ is a research-based, low-cost, fun and effective tool for teachers to use with their students for a peaceful and productive classroom. Through the use of Yoga 4 Classrooms activities, teachers can provide their students with opportunities to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. The activities promote self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-confidence – the foundations of exceptional learning and a lifetime of health and wellness.

This one-day workshop is open to all classroom teachers, administrators, school counselors, phys ed teachers, therapists and others seeking to bring simple yoga and mindfulness techniques into the classroom or similar setting for a more peaceful, productive class day.

ChildLight Yoga Teacher Training Course

ChildLight Yoga® provides evidence-based yoga education to children in schools and communities, and to professionals whose work supports the well-being of children. Basic ChildLight Yoga Teacher Training Course Includes:

  • 17 contact hours, 10 non-contact hours (optional for certification)
  • Comprehensive, fully-illustrated ChildLight Yoga Instructor Manual (dubbed the ‘bible of kids’ yoga’ by former training participants)
  • Many useful handouts
  • I Grow With Yoga, the corresponding CD of Yoga Songs for Children
  • Certification administration and materials
  • Membership in the CLY Instructor community with benefits which include discounts on continuing education trainings, and much more.

Lisa Flynn, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, RCYT is Founder/Director of ChildLight Yoga and Yoga 4 Classrooms. Her mission is to introduce yoga and mindfulness to the youngest generation, providing children with a solid foundation upon which to cultivate life long health and wellness – body, mind and spirit.

CEUs, PDPs, and Yoga Alliance credit hours: Participants who complete the ChildLight Yoga Teacher Training are eligible to receive 1.5 CEUs from the University of Southern Maine (USM). You will be emailed the form prior to the training weekend. If you’d like to apply for CEU’s, please print, fill out and submit to your training facilitator at the training, along with a $20 processing fee payable directly to USM.

Registered yoga teachers are eligible for continuing education contact hours through Yoga Alliance.

Professional Development Points (PDPs) may also be available through your employer. As each credentialing organization has their own requirements, you should confirm with them that your training hours will apply toward your degree or continuing education requirements. Application for accreditation from these organizations is your responsibility. Additional fees may be required.

Belly After Baby Workshop

Belly after Baby Workshop with Andrea Trombley, PT – Return to optimal strength and get to know your body again. In this physical therapy workshop, you’ll learn simple exercises you can use every day and as a part of your yoga practice. We’ll focus on anato­my of the pelvic floor and core muscles, core and postural engagement, and strategies to prevent common postpar­tum issues such as inconti­nence, back, pelvic and hip pain.

Participants must be at least six weeks postpartum. Please leave baby at home – this workshop is just for you! Cost – $40 for a 2-hour workshop. Check back here or our Facebook page for our next scheduled workshop.
