Yoga Therapeutics for Healthcare Professionals: Balancing the Nervous System with Michelle Downing
5/21 Friday: 3pm – 7:30pm
5/22 Saturday: 8am-12pm, 1pm-5pm
Chronic pain and stress are pervasive in our society. As high as 60-80% of primary care visits can be related to increased stress. Chronic pain brings many clients to seek symptomatic relief in health care settings. Research shows that both chronic pain and stress are related to an imbalance in the nervous system.
Yoga as a therapeutic intervention is uniquely positioned to provide practices to improve nervous system balance. In this two-day workshop, the neurophysiology of the stress and pain response will be explained. Participants will receive instruction and experiential learning in restorative yoga, breathing exercises, guided relaxation, and meditation techniques. The neurophysiology underlying yoga’s impact on the nervous system will be explored. You will learn how therapeutic yoga principles may be integrated into treatment for patients who could benefit from nervous system balance.
Please note, the class will be held online via zoom. The class will be recorded for your future reference. You will have access to the recording for three months. However, attendance at all the sections will be required in order to receive CE/CEU credit for the course.
